Boost for Business & Technology Precinct
In a move to boost job creation in the region, Sunshine Coast Regional Council has committed to a multimillion dollar injection into crucial infrastructure for Sippy Downs Town Centre.Council announced it will invest $13 million to fast-track the construction of a main road and sewerage mains through the proposed Town Centre, including the Business and Technology Precinct.
This injection represents a significant boost to the Precinct which already has secured investments of $66M in road infrastructure and $11M from the ‘Clever Networks’ project to ensure high speed fibre-optic connectivity. The Precinct is master-planned to accommodate 8,000+ knowledge workers over the next 10-15 years.
The Precinct’s close proximity to the University of the Sunshine Coast is a key benefit that will attract knowledge-based businesses seeking to tap into University talent.
The major stakeholders in the development of this Town Centre and Precinct include Sunshine Coast Regional Council, the University of the Sunshine Coast, Aria Property (representing a joint venture between Aria Property, Bloomberg Incorporated and Rosedene), S&L Developments and Woolworths.
Mayor Bob Abbot said “the Sippy Downs precinct would make a substantial contribution to efforts to diversify the local economy and attract technology-based businesses and Council would like to see it completed and soon as possible.”
