Operator

I have started my business and focus 100% on its growth and winning my first orders

With your brand new widget or service nicely packaged it’s time to start operating. Premises which will enable growth, while being affordable, preferably on a short lease and offer low maintenance or low levels of distraction (i.e. are internet, phone, furniture available readily, low fit out costs, is the building fit for purpose).

Have a look at our article the Four Keys to Success to get some ideas on how the different skills in a business can contribute to its success. As a start the base functions you will need to cover will be Sales and Marketing, Operations, Finance and Production. To do this you will probably need at least one staff member.

If you think you are good enough to do everything than great, but will you really do everything or just gravitate to what you like. Remember no sales (Sales & Marketing), means no revenue, means no product delivery (Operations) means no products produced (Production), means no money (Finance), means no business.  Miss one of these skills and your life can only get harder. If you do not have the funds to hire staff to cover all of these skill sets you can potential hire specialist consultants, board members who may have this skill set and use this as a way to broaden your management team. Alternatively pay in sweat equity.
